Set across from the Portiuncula Chapel, the Tomb of the Unborn Child serves as a peaceful place to pray for infants in the womb, expectant mothers, those healing from abortion, and all the vulnerable of the world.
Near the Portiuncula Chapel and the Tomb of the Unborn Child stands a rough stone enclosure that houses a nearly life-size, year-round manger scene.
In the tradition of St. Francis’ profound love for the Blessed Mother, a few feet from the Portiuncula Chapel stands the Marian Grotto.
Tucked behind the Portiuncula Chapel and the Crèche, a wooden staircase leads down to Franciscan University’s outdoor Stations of the Cross.
The Spirit moves us to prayer when and where he wills, at all hours of the day, in any and all places. Sometimes this means a deep desire to visit Our Lord midday, or in the quiet dark of night.
Set atop a hill adjacent to Holy Spirit Friary, the 60-foot Steel Cross is visible from miles around in the Ohio Valley. It is a powerful reminder of the University’s Christian obligation to “live under the cross.”
Located near the center of campus, Christ the King Chapel is the spiritual heart of Franciscan University of Steubenville. The largest place of worship on campus, hundreds of students flow in and out of its doors every week.
Across from the Rosary Circle, sits a small decorative brick wall enclosure with two benches. In the middle of the brick wall is a cross. This inviting place to pray or spend time with friends is Kelly’s Garden, dedicated to the memory of Kelly Roggensack, a Franciscan University student and cross country team member who died in 2009.
